Hot Stone Massage
A hot stone massage involves the therapist using smooth, heated stones as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles, enabling the therapist to work more deeply and achieve results more quickly.
The stones are heated by being placed into an electric slow-cooker or a purpose-built device which is filled with water. When warmed, the stones some are placed onto specific points on the body (such as the back, hands, etc.), and others are held by the massage therapist and used to work the muscles.
Please notify the therapist prior to making an appointment if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, or are on medication that thins your blood. You shouldn’t receive a hot stone massage if you are pregnant or have a sunburn. If you are menopausal, the hot stone massage may trigger a hot flush.
